Mamluk Regional Capital ca AD 12-15, Abbasid Pilgrim Rest ca AD 750-1200, Umayyad Market Town ca AD 650-750, Byzantine Ecclesiastical Center ca AD 350-650, Roman Temple Town ca 63- AD 350, Hellenistic Fortress ca 198-63 BC, Ammonite Citadel ca 900-500 BC, Proto Ammonite Village ca 120-900 BC, Traditional Amorite Stronghold -- Excavated by Andrews University in Cooperation with the Department of Antiquities. -- Located approximately 25 kilometers southwest of Amman and overlooking the northeast edge of Dead Sea, Tall Hisban once occupied a strategic position along a caravan route of classical and medieval times and the Ayyubid-Mamluk pilgrimage route from Damascus to Mecca (Walker, B. (ADAJ 47 (2003); p. 443).
