Description
The USAID Sustainable Cultural Heritage Through Engagement of Local Communities Project, implemented by ACOR, supported and participated in a number of special events, high-level meetings, lectures, and conferences from 2014 to 2018. On November 7, 2018, Ghawr as Safi Project Director Konstantinos D. Politis delivered an ACOR/USAID SCHEP lecture entitled "The Origins of the Sugar Industry in Jordan: Latest results of the Ghawr as-Safi Project" at ACOR. The lecture covered the results of the final two field seasons of the Ghawr aṣ-Ṣāfī project, which began in 1997, focusing on new discoveries not yet shown to the public and offering conclusions on the origins of the sugar industry, particularly in Jordan. It also included an update on work supported by USAID SCHEP, including development of the medieval sugar factory for tourism, educational awareness, and the local community.
