Description
The USAID Sustainable Cultural Heritage Through Engagement of Local Communities Project, implemented by ACOR, supported and participated in a number of special events, high-level meetings, lectures, and conferences from 2014 – 2018. Such events provided opportunities to exchange knowledge, develop and present policies and guidelines, plan collaborations, and strengthen the community of practice around Jordan’s heritage. In April 2017, Glenn Corbett, project director of the Temple of Winged Lions Cultural Resource Management Initiative and associate director at ACOR, gave a USAID SCHEP lecture entitled “Experiential Tourism in Petra” at ACOR’s headquarters in Amman. The lecture focused on SCHEP-supported interventions at the site, including a tourism program developed to provide visitors with an interactive, hands-on tour of the site by engaging with tasks such as documentation, conservation, pottery washing and sorting, and sifting.
