Jordan. Amman, ICHAJ 13 Proceedings at Princess Sumaya University
Description
The USAID Sustainable Cultural Heritage Through Engagement of Local Communities Project, implemented by ACOR, supported and participated in a number of special events, high-level meetings, lectures, and conferences from 2014 – 2018. Such events provided opportunities to exchange knowledge, develop and present policies and guidelines, plan collaborations, and strengthen the community of practice around Jordan’s heritage. The International Conference on the History and Archaeology of Jordan (ICHAJ) provides a tri-annual opportunity for scholars from across the world to share their research, knowledge, and experiences in Jordan. In 2016, it was hosted in Amman, and SCHEP was honored to participate and to support the DOA in this significant undertaking. SCHEP representatives and five affiliated project directors presented their work, sharing the SCHEP model and the project’s experiences with members of academic and cultural heritage communities. SCHEP also invited its Site Stewards to join ICHAJ 13, where they were able to learn from each other as well as the other projects and practitioners presenting at the conference. Finally, SCHEP sponsored 15 Jordanian university students to attend the conference and learn about new projects, techniques, technologies, and issues at the forefront of Jordanian archaeology today.
