Description
enThe street [...] would originally have crossed Madaba from east to west, leading to gates in the city walls that have since vanished. The street was paved with large flagstones and flanked by columns set on stylobates. The street was covered by a layer of beaten earth during the Byzantine-Umayyad periods. Many of the columns were reused in later structures, both in antiquity and in more recent times. The street now forms part of the Madaba Archaeological Park. (Bikai. P. "Madaba: Cultural Heritage". 1996; p. 29) -- الشارع الروماني كان أصلا يقطع مادبا من الشرق الى الغرب، ويقود الى بوابات في أسوار المدينة والتي تلاشت قديما . لقد كان الشارع مرصوفا بحجارة رصف كبيرة وتحيط من الجانبين أعمدة على القواعد، وكان مغطى بطبقة من التراب المدكوك خلال الفترات البيزنطية والأموية، وحاليا يشكل جزءا من منتزه مادبا الأثري.
