Description
en This site lies on the south eastern fringe of the modern town of Ma'an adjacent to the Wadi al-Mahattan. Immediately to the north east of the site are a large number of walled gardens built of much brick and watered by a complex irrigation system. The structures surveyed were a fort, a reservoir and a small aqueduct...The fort at Ma'an has until 1983 been used as a prison by the Jordanian government. Petersen, Andrew D. 1986. Early Ottoman Forts on the Hajj Route in Jordan. Ph.D. University of Oxford, p.86.
