Capacity building is an important part of the USAID SCHEP model for promoting the sustainable management of Jordan’s cultural heritage. From 2014 – 2018, SCHEP implemented training programs and workshops in skills related to cultural heritage conservation, management, interpretation, and presentation, for over 300 heritage professionals, recent graduates, local community members, and others. SCHEP also supported or facilitated internships for Jordanian students and young professionals, within the main project or in conjunction with one of the nine supported cultural heritage projects. In Busayra, SCHEP organized a capacity building program for 10 graduate students from different backgrounds. These students were trained over the course of 3 months in topics such as site assessment, condition assessments, site development, principles of heritage management, and the history of Tafilah. As part of this program, the interns visited ACOR to learn more about SCHEP, as well as visiting archeological sites in Amman to diversify their perspectives.
