Description
Capacity building is an important part of the USAID SCHEP model for promoting the sustainable management of Jordan’s cultural heritage. From 2014 – 2018, SCHEP implemented training programs and workshops in skills related to cultural heritage conservation, management, interpretation, and presentation, for over 300 heritage professionals, recent graduates, local community members, and others. To support employees of the DOA and the Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority, SCHEP organized a Geographic Information System (GIS) training in November 2017. GIS is a key technology often used in archaeology or cultural resource management to map environmental or cultural heritage sites. This vital tool allows these employees, the majority of whom are women, to take on new responsibilities and advance their careers. This two-phase training included the basics of GIS, statistical analysis, attribute data, and video georeferencing and georectification. The training was held at InfoGraph in Amman.
