Description
Between 2014 and 2018, USAID SCHEP’s awareness program sought to bring together communities and strengthen bonds, while also educating children, youth, adults, and families about their local cultural heritage and the importance of preserving it. To this end, SCHEP implemented educational workshops, field trips, and events, with an emphasis on hands-on learning and direct participation. In cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Petra Archaeological Park, and The Temple of the Winged Lions Cultural Resource Management Initiative, SCHEP organized a series of visits to Petra by school children from the other SCHEP sites in October and November 2017. This program, titled “Be An Archaeologist,” aimed to raise awareness among Jordanian students regarding the importance of learning and preserving Jordan’s archaeological, cultural, and natural heritage sites. A total of 294 students ages 10 to 17, representing 13 schools, participated in the program.
