Description
Between 2014 and 2018, USAID SCHEP’s awareness program sought to bring together communities and strengthen bonds, while also educating children, youth, adults, and families about their local cultural heritage and the importance of preserving it. To this end, SCHEP implemented educational workshops, field trips, and events, with an emphasis on hands-on learning and direct participation. In partnership with The Royal Marine Conservation Society of Jordan (JREDS) and SOS Children’s Village International, SCHEP hosted a three-day children’s workshop focusing on sustainable marine cultural heritage from July 25 to 27, 2017. Educational and awareness workshops included pottery painting and restoration as well as mosaic making. Through these activities, SCHEP hopes to instill the value of protecting Jordan’s cultural heritage among the youth from an early age.
