Description
Capacity building is an important part of the USAID SCHEP model for promoting the sustainable management of Jordan’s cultural heritage. From 2014 – 2018, SCHEP implemented training programs and workshops in skills related to cultural heritage conservation, management, interpretation, and presentation, for over 300 heritage professionals, recent graduates, local community members, and others. The Diploma Course in Surveying and Archaeological Heritage Documentation for employees of the DOA and PDTRA was one of SCHEP’s proudest achievements. SCHEP worked with the Hashemite University to develop the curriculum, which includes topics such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, 3-D modeling, 3-D laser scanning, and photogrammetric modeling in archaeological documentation. A key element of this multi-year course was integrating new technologies and best practices, which were put into practice through on-site visits and practicums. Participants tested out their new skills at Umm al Jimal, Petra, Khirbet Salameh, Ghawr as Safi, the Amman Citadel, and other sites across Jordan.
