Description
Capacity building is an important part of the USAID SCHEP model for promoting the sustainable management of Jordan’s cultural heritage. From 2014 – 2018, SCHEP implemented training programs and workshops in skills related to cultural heritage conservation, management, interpretation, and presentation, for over 300 heritage professionals, recent graduates, local community members, and others. In partnership with the Ghawr as-Safi Project, SCHEP worked to train local residents in the area to excavate, to conserve small objects and structures associated with the site, and to catalog and register finds at the Museum of the Lowest Point on Earth, also located in Ghawr al-Safi. Three people were trained as mosaic conservators, and five were trained as site assistants.
