Description
USAID SCHEP was represented once again at the annual meeting of the American Schools of Oriental Research (ASOR), held virtually. SCHEP-supported projects in Madaba, in partnership with the Madaba Regional Archaeological Museum Project (MRAMP), were the focus of a panel discussion as part of a workshop on Preserving the Cultural Heritage of the Madaba Region of Jordan. former SCHEP’s chief of party, Nizar Al Adarbeh, and deputy chief of party, Jehad Haron, spoke at the workshop alongside other Jordanian, American, and Italian heritage experts. Mr. Al Adarbeh also presented on “Integrated Natural-Cultural Heritage Management at the World Heritage Sites of Petra and Wadi Rum” in the session “Cultural Heritage: Preservation, Presentation, and Management I.” This presentation highlighted USAID SCHEP’s cooperation with authorities in Petra and Wadi Rum to enhance the management of Jordan’s World Heritage Sites through an integrated cultural and natural heritage management approach. In a time when physical attendance of such conferences is impossible, the virtual meeting was a valued opportunity for SCHEP to share its approach and highlight project successes with historians, archaeologists and cultural heritage experts from all over the world.
