As part of the grant that Madaba Regional Archaeological Museum Project (MRAMP), supported by the American Center of Research (ACOR) through its USAID SCHEP project, MRAMP and ACOR have collaboratively initiated the second and third training workshops, thus completing the workshop series for the publication of the “Pottery of Jordan” manual that has been produced with ACOR funding as well.
25 individuals from the Jordanian Department of Antiquities, MRMAP, and the Busayra Foundation for Cultural Heritage joined the two workshops. These workshops aimed to provide the participants with full knowledge in recognizing pottery typologies as well as to enhance their skills in analyzing the material, matrix and structure of the various fabrications.
A pool of qualified and well-known trainers accompanied the trainees in their journey to learn more about the pottery of Jordan. They include Douglas Clark, Adeeb Abu Shmais, Jehad Haron, Debra Foran, Suzanne Richard, Stephen Bourke, Larry Herr, and Khairieh Amr. The instruction provided hands-on analytical methods of identifying pottery specifications and characteristics.
The second training workshop took place in the Madaba Institute for Mosaic Art and Restoration (MIMAR) entitled “The pottery of Jordan in the Middle and Late Bronze Ages and in the Iron and Persian Period”. The third training workshop was located in the Department of Antiquities at the Amman Citadel in December 2021 with the title “The characteristics of the Roman and Byzantine Pottery”. All training sessions were accompanied by hands-on activities to integrate theoretical information with practice.
