As part of its support for local heritage and tourism projects throughout Jordan, ACOR, through its USAID SCHEP project, has been working over recent months with the Tourism Association for the Development of Archaeological Sites in Al-Smakieh, Al Karak. The Tourism Association for the Development of Archaeological Sites is a Jordanian non-profit organization that aims to promote and preserve antiquities and heritage in the town of Al-Smakieh, in addition to working to increase tourism and involvement of the local community to establish long-term economic sustainability in the town.
As part of this partnership, the organization organized three workshops for members of the local community: Rapid Participatory Appraisal, training in Social Media Marketing and E- Marketing, and another in Packaging and Branding. It is our hope that these trainings, and our partnership with the Al-Smakieh organization overall, will help equip those living in the area with the tools and knowledge they need to promote and preserve their local heritage, while generating income for the community.
