Description
ACOR through USAID SCHEP has been implementing the Women’s Leadership in World Heritage Sites program for 16 women from the local communities of Wadi Rum. Through this program, and in partnership with AMIDEAST, a series of three English language training sessions have been conducted to help these women succeed as leaders in the management of the World Heritage Site that they call home. As part of these courses, the participants were introduced to essential skills for effective communication, reviewed common communication mistakes, and developed their English listening skills, in addition to creating posters about cultural heritage and sites and a training on the topic of “Introduction to Women Leadership in World Heritage Sites” as part of the Women’s Leadership in World Heritage Sites program. This topic was addressed through a series of lectures from local experts, and included a site visit to Petra to meet with women leaders working in a local World Heritage Site and better understand the outstanding universal value of this site. Topics of the lectures included: the role of women leaders in this field, how to nominate a site to become a World Heritage Site, and basics skills for monitoring a world heritage site, such as photography.
