Description
Just east of Mafraq, Umm al Jimal has been continually inhabited since its inception as a Nabataean trading post. The buildings were constructed and re-constructed out of black basalt stones, giving this ancient city a distinct appearance. At Umm al Jimal, ACOR USAID SCHEP partnered with the Umm el-Jimal Archaeological Project under the leadership of Dr. Bert de Vries to clear pathways for visitors and install interpretive signage throughout the site, among other interventions.
